The world over, in every market, you’ll be offered that special technique or magic tool for quick success that will deliver huge rewards for little effort.

We’re right to be skeptical of these offers!

Whilst developing and implementing market leading techniques, are not secret ingredients, they are an important part of driving productivity and growth.

In my opinion, even with great talent and innovative techniques as part of your essential ingredients, on their own they’re not enough for a market-leading recipe without possibly the key ingredient of Resilience / Determination.

As highlighted by American psychologist Carol Dweck, Professor of Psychology at Stanford University, “The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even (or especially) when it’s not going well, is the hallmark of the growth mindset. This is the mindset that allows people to thrive during some of the most challenging times in their lives.”

She states that success comes from having the right mindset rather than intelligence, talent or education. People with a fixed mindset believe that they’re born with certain intelligence, skills and abilities that cannot change.

Isn’t it true that it’s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success – but how resilient and determined we are and whether we approach our objectives and the associated challenges with a fixed or ‘growth’ mindset.

Our focus should therefore be on our continued growth and learning to build, not just our skills and knowledge of our craft (and life in general), but also our abilities to overcome adversity and achieve our potential.

In working with my clients at all levels within each business, my starting point is each individual’s key drivers and motivators; because if there’s no link to these, then there’s little chance of gaining their ownership and the determination for success from applying our tailored solutions.

It’s with this ‘ownership’, aligned with developing their core determination and resilience through enhancing their technical skills and clarity of objectives, that enables each of these individuals and thus their businesses to achieve their full potential.

What do you believe is the ‘key’ ingredient in your success?
